well, it took a few days (holy smokes, not DAYS...), but this bad boy is DONE and ready to ship down to JFish in Portland for the Monsterbation show at the Pony Club Gallery!

i've been busting my own balls working on a secret gallery project (which i'll let you in on soon), but i thought i'd show you the first of a handful of paintings i'm going to have up for the month of october...

i must say, i think i've fallen in love with linen. i have beaten the hell out of this thing and it's still tight as an effing drum. and it's been a long time since i've worked on anything this large, (and it's one of the smallest in this series) so this is super refreshing and fun. it's really helping me get out of this summertime slump i've found myself in...

it's a wicked site that the super cool meg hunt put together where a buttload of amazing artists are doing series illustrations from their favourite books. you should definitely check it out. right now. immediately.

ladies and gentlemen, you heard it here first. i am a dick. well, this may not be the FIRST place/time you've heard it. i'm pretty sure i have admitted to this before, and i'm absolutely certain that more than most have at least thought about it.

confession: dating ate my life, but due to being sad about my terrible art time lethargy, and big fat looming deadlines (it's mostly because of the big fat looming deadlines...) i am back!

first of all, this past monday (aug.23rd) you may have noticed my outright super gloaty bragtime tweet about my most recent illustration that was printed in the globe and mail. here it is if you missed it:

second of all, i am going to brag a little, but also tell you to read THIS interview with anne koyama of koyama press vs. sequential, interview done by the pleasantly polite david hains. anne koyama is the shit, and my name is at the bottom and stuff... but really. sweetest woman alive, and a great interview. way to go, champs. exes and ohs.

speaking of david hains, one of my friggen favourites commissions was for that darn guy, so here's one for the road, "something disgustingly whimsical, or whimsically disgusting":

aaaand finally, i've got something big coming up. something i have procrastinated for far too long... it involves my paintings, more paintings from seven other friends (roben nieuwland, ilichna morasky, britt wilson, selena wong, ale diaz, hyein lee and franzisca barczyk), one large space with a shit ton of beer in it, and the month of october...

hey you sonsabitches,

my pal ty dunitz and i have been working our balls off (not really...) putting together a panel discussions for conbravo, which will be happening to night at MIDNIGHT (which gives you an idea of the level of maturity of the thing..). it's about the illustrators identity toolkit, dicks, and how we made it happen. you should come watch us blather on about dicks and condoms and vaginas and pencils. it's not free, but i guarantee it will be funnier and more awkward than any movie you've ever seen.

also, i recently did a sketch day at the rage! it was super fun, and those sweethearts did a fancy schmancy writeup about how much fun it was. thanks for those of you who stopped by, and hopefully i didnt break your hearts TOO much with how ugly and terrible i drew your goddamn faces..

also, keep your eyes peeled on monday, cus yours truly MIGHT have another illustration in the life section of the globe and mail... (IN CONTEXT YO) i said might. and i didnt say who, so calm down. yeesh.

just got back from new york this morning and man are my arms tired. wait... i totally effed that joke right the hell up..

anyhow, britt and i thought it would be fun to screw around the us of a for a week and cause some trouble, so we went down to syracuse to visit our good pal phil, then trucked on down to NYC for a few days and hung out with effing SCOTT and BAGEL, the raddest couple of mofos in that friggen city, and then slowly made our way back up to canada. what a wicked time. the wickedest of times. there was sweat and tears and rooftop bbq's and beers and bacon wrapped hot dogs and manhattans and high fives and dinosaurs and naked homo sapiens and walking and water and central parks and rats and cockroaches and bus naps and other stuff.

eff.... so much amazing stuff.

but i did a few sketches! just random garbage here and there...

so all in all, that was the bestest week in a long long time. i gotta get my ass back to NYC real soon.
