This exhibition of artists examines the socio-technological revolution spurred on by the development of an electronic medium. i know what you're thinking... "that vicki nerino is a total asshole. she doesn't post on her blog anymore and she's totes too busy to let us know what she's doing and i dislike this".

actually, i don't think any of you are thinking this. you probably didn't even notice that i was gone. siiiighhBUT GUESS WHAT HERE I AM. with a buttload of updates on what i've been up to since june 18th.

FIRST OF ALL!! i just finished a painting for Toronto Draws! it is a month long gallery show held at Steamwhistle Brewers where so so so many awesome artists have contributed to. AND, there will be an auction too! all proceeds are to support the Canadian Comic Legends Legal Defense Fund. so you should all check that shit out!!
anyhow, here's the piece that i have donated! (and a couple process peeks for fun)

next up, i've done two, that's right, TWO mini comics since we last saw eachother!

here's the lowdown:

well there they are!
first up is "1001 nights, the woman with two coyntes".

it is an ACTUAL story from the arabian nights tales, retold and comicked by myself. you will find the original story HERE (about 2/3 of the way down... just search "coyntes" on the page). aaand of course, i went ahead and substituted all of the characters in the story with Ted Bear dudes. classic, vicki. classic... here are some peeks at that bad boy:

the best part about this one is, not only is it in minicomic form, it's also being published, IN COLOUR, in the Seven Stories Press anthology "The Graphic Cannon", due out this spring!

next up is CRUD!

this is something brand new for me. my good pal ted has gotten tired and needs to take a break, to i ventured off with another project that i'm really excited to see where it goes.
essentially, CRUD is going to be a small collection of stories about mutated underground dweller people and their daily happenings. this is the first chapter, a small 10 pager about poop (so predictable!). here's a few peeks at the making:

keep an eye out for the next edition, which i'll be starting up on VERY soon.

finally, i've done a few other little things here and there. i made a set of SUPER bookmarks (literally). i have a million of them. inquire within. (click here for more pics and Fan Expo business)

also, i did a little illustration for a story on OpenFile for a ditty that my big hairy and somewhat funny boyfriend jordan wrote (attn: torontonians) "When Doug Met Peggy"

just when i thought i got my life back after the opening of memories of enemies, the thought of canzine smacked me in the face and brought me back to the ol' worktrain brain...

THANK YOU to all of you who made it out to the opening of that big ol show last wednesday. i had such a great time! there was an amazing turnout, fancy schmancy hors d'oeurves, super duper artwork, and a high five here and there. i am a big dumb face and didn't take any photos of the party, nor do i have images of 6/7 paintings i have up in the show, but i will get those together and post them in a few weeks when i have my art back... SO THERE.

my pal ty dunitz and i have been working our balls off (not really...) putting together a panel discussions for conbravo, which will be happening to night at MIDNIGHT (which gives you an idea of the level of maturity of the thing..). it's about the illustrators identity toolkit, dicks, and how we made it happen. you should come watch us blather on about dicks and condoms and vaginas and pencils. it's not free, but i guarantee it will be funnier and more awkward than any movie you've ever seen.

also, i recently did a sketch day at the rage! it was super fun, and those sweethearts did a fancy schmancy writeup about how much fun it was. thanks for those of you who stopped by, and hopefully i didnt break your hearts TOO much with how ugly and terrible i drew your goddamn faces..

just got back from new york this morning and man are my arms tired. wait... i totally effed that joke right the hell up..

anyhow, britt and i thought it would be fun to screw around the us of a for a week and cause some trouble, so we went down to syracuse to visit our good pal phil, then trucked on down to NYC for a few days and hung out with effing SCOTT and BAGEL, the raddest couple of mofos in that friggen city, and then slowly made our way back up to canada. what a wicked time. the wickedest of times. there was sweat and tears and rooftop bbq's and beers and bacon wrapped hot dogs and manhattans and high fives and dinosaurs and naked homo sapiens and walking and water and central parks and rats and cockroaches and bus naps and other stuff.

eff.... so much amazing stuff.

but i did a few sketches! just random garbage here and there...

so all in all, that was the bestest week in a long long time. i gotta get my ass back to NYC real soon.

man, i cant even tell you how much fun i had... two weekends ago.

TCAF was pretty much the best weekend in the history of time.

it started off with collecting our houseguests and pals phil mcandrew and ryan pequin from their arrival points friday night, and off to a par-tay immediately, where i met scott c, dustin harbin, david huyck, jason turner, and about a thousand other people for the first time, and went on to meet people like anne koyama, michael deforge, kc green, aaron costain, john martz, ryan north, the one percent press dudes, and about a bajillion other name drops. and man. it was a goddamn pleasure you guys. all of you. you made that weekend the bestest weekend. so full of dancing and karaoking and thrusting and yelling and love.

on top of that, i almost sold out of ted bear, which totally blew my mind. i was really happy with it, and i guess it showed in the work. so, yay!

as you probably know, me and my straight life partner/roommate/fellow uterus parade-er britt have a table at TCAF this weekend, table 122 to be exact, and BOY, are we excited about it. look at my face. cant you see the monsterous levels of happy in and around my face?

first of all, i have made a new minicomic that will be exposed for the first time at this years tcaf, and i'm pretty excited about it! it's called "ted bear in bare season", and it's about a bear who's never experienced.. uh... lets call it, the taste of fish...

and dudes! we put together a mini of the weeklies we have been writing and posting on the UP blog since the fall! seriously, i'm not even kidding...

we've also made up these wicked matchbook style notebooks smothered in terrible drawings by britt and myself, and let me tell you they are SWEET.

i also have a bunch of 5x7 and 8x10 original paintings if anyone gives a damn. mostly they are for decoration cus i suspect no ones wants these things.

but wait! there's more!

and of course, i've reprinted everything in my minicomic cavalry, laminated more bookmarks, and squeezed out more love all over these things in hopes that someone will take them home with them. sorry if some of them are a bit sticky. my love is viscous.

well, what a weekend.

first of all, the wonderous phil mcandrew came to toronto from the state of new york on friday night and slept on mine and britt's couch all weekend. here he is, enjoying some strong canadian beer.

we ate so much food and made so many horrible jokes and faces, one would not have to make any more jokes and/or faces for the rest of their lives and still be average on the joke/face scale of life. i thought americans were all big fat dummies, but i guess there are exceptions. phil's not fat. or at least he hides it well.

then, holy halloween saturday. i sewed my fingies raw making a few costumes, no biggie..

and then, the whole point of this post, sunday! canzine!

i'm not sure why we look so sad about it, but really, it was awesome.

holy update day, for reals pals.

sorry about my absence but i have been so busy with gallery pieces and minicomics and 24 hour comic day and apartment hunting and bike riding and folding and stapling and eating and pooping and LIFE.

...my bad.

first of all - things are coming along for a fantastic gallery show that i have been given the honour of participating in. here's the deets:

second - you should come and pop by the rage this saturday. "why would i want to do something boring like THAT!?" you may ask. well, for one, I'LL be there, so its guaranteed to be wicked ass cool. and second, kym howe will be there. she makes things out of stuff too, and we are going to jive it up at the rage and party down in the sun.

third - these minicomics are lookin swell. i have printed two of them in a run of 5o each, and i am printing 2 more comics tomorrow. here's a sneaky peek at the two that are done:

tasty tidbit: i just finished the covers of the inanimate objects comic. it's a hand carved lino stamp of wonder and india ink. so there.

i mainly printed these out to sell at fanExpo with britt, but i think i will sell them on the internets and perhaps at a couple retail locations if anyone will let me. time will tell.

fourth - speaking of comics, britt and i did a 24 hour comic day in which one start and complete a 24 page comic in it's entirety, including brainstorming, rough layouts, and final execution. we both failed to meet the deadline, but we got some SWEET COMICS out of the deal, so expect to see those in print too in the near future...

and finally, fifth - keep an eye on ickilip for some awful awful things. it's getting really gross...
